Dr. Ava Cadell: Sex Is Good For Your Health

Sex with someone you love is the best prescription for good health.  It keeps you young, keeps your sexual organs in good working order and boosts your self- confidence.  Nothing else stimulates all of the senses quite like sex.  It puts a glow on you that no other activity does.

Regularly occurring sex produces certain emotional and physical health benefits.  It’s long been established that there are myriad of health benefits related to sex. This awareness has been recorded in our culture for centuries in old wives tales such as “Use it, or lose it.”  Just as if you don’t use your household appliances regularly, they also become rusty and break down.

A consistently active sex life is beneficial for the cardiovascular system.  An increase in heart rate benefits circulation, and can reduce the likelihood of a heart attack.  The British Medical Journal published an article reporting that men who had the highest number of orgasms had a better quality of life and lived the longest.  Sexual activity regulates and exercises the respiratory organs.  That heavy breathing with someone you love—is healthy!

Sex benefits neck and back muscles which increase blood flow to the brain and can alleviate certain types of headaches…so, the next time your partner says, “I’ve got a headache.”  You can say, “Good, let’s make love and get rid of it.”  In the post- coital phase of sex, relaxation of muscles even alleviates insomnia.  The release of tension leads to a deeper, quicker sleep.

Believe it or not, sex works as a laxative, toning and controlling lower abdominal muscles.  Sex as pain medication may sound farfetched, but consider this; Just before climax, high  levels of Oxytocin flood the body and release endorphins that relieve pain.  And, sexual activity helps relieve monthly menstrual cramps by providing a natural decongestion.

No more flu or pesky colds is a great reason to have sex at least twice a week.  Researchers at Wilkes University, in Pennsylvania discovered that people who have regular sex also have 30% higher levels of immunoglobulin A, an antibody which boosts the immune system.  And if you think you’re overweight…there’s no better way to lose it than with sexual activity.  Sex burns about 200 calories—turning fat into muscle more quickly than any other exercise.  It’s equal to running on a treadmill for half an hour. An important psychological benefit of an active sex life is that it reduces anxiety.  A sedative effect of sex is conductive to fighting the effects of daily tension.  The emotional fulfillment that comes from an intimate sexual encounter results in the relaxation of your muscles in your brain.  Sex can be an effective anti-depressant.  It releases feel-good neurotransmiters—Dopamine from the brain.  Physical and emotional aspects of sex improve self-esteem, adding to a sense of confidence.

Sex gets your creative juices flowing.  Because sexual fulfillment involves your brain, it improves a variety of mental functions, including your concentration.

Sex improve your sense of smell because after lovemaking, Prolactin, a hormone flows to the brain developing new neurons in the olfactory bulb—the smell center of the brain.  And if you don’t have a partner, then make love to yourself because you will still get the same health benefits.

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR • BUSINESS ICON • MILLIONAIRE: The Remarkable Journey of Alex Kaufman

July 2, 2009 by Beverly Hills Times

There is so much scenic beauty in and around Aspen—all framed by a backdrop of inspiring mountain peaks with infinite breathtaking views.  In the winter, if your timing is just right, you can cross paths with one of the other true resources in the area, a cheerful business icon named Alex Kaufman, with an amazing story to tell.  Born in Poland before the second World War, Kaufman was orphaned during the Holocaust at the age of 15.  He escaped after being sent to a work camp the Nazis had assigned him to.   He lived and survived in a forest for four years.  When the war ended he paid for an education in Stuttgart by starting a restaurant/night club.  He eventually graduated from the University with a degree in chemistry.  Kaufman then set out for something he had always dreamed of…freedom in the United States of America.  He landed in New York with one quarter to his name and  took a job washing glassware for Hatco Chemical, in New Jersey.  Within 12 years he was  president of the company and innovating  synthetic lubricants for the aircraft industry and also  created NutraSweet, a product which his company created for the   domestic food market.  As his ever-expanding company grew Kaufman was also purchasing complementary companies that over the years became leading industry-group holdings which thrived under the Kaufman umbrella, and made  him one of the wealthiest people in the United States.

Throughout Kaufman’s life he has lived by a set of values that he states has defined his business  and his personal life as well.  This code of ethics Kaufman says has made him the success he is today.  When we spoke, I asked him about those values and here is what he had to say.  First Topic—Ethics:

“I survived World War II by living in the forests in Poland and coming into the villages to work for food.  Most of the men were gone, and the women left behind needed help.  Even though they didn’t know me, they learned that I could be trusted to do the work that I agreed to do. The same thing applied when I came to America.  My English might not have been perfect, but they knew I would tell them the truth.  As I worked up the ranks at Hatco, I dealt straight forwardly with the people above me, the ones I worked with, and those who worked for me.  Later when I bought Hatco I had to borrow millions of dollars.  I had no collateral anywhere near the amount, so I told the bankers to check my reputation with the mother company and within the chemical industry.  They came back in a few days and made the loan.  At that point, the Hatco employees had a choice: stay with the original owners, or make the jump with me.  I was proud that so many good people trusted me and came with me in our new venture.  We did great things together.

I was up to my chin in debt, I had good people, yet I still needed to buy chemicals to make new products, but had no money to do so.  My suppliers, with whom I had worked for years, knew me and concluded those early deals with just a handshake.  They believed in me, which paid off for me, and I kept my word, which paid off for them.”

Don’t Be Afraid To Take Risks:

“The Nazis had me in work camps laying railroad tracks, and I realized that unless I did something drastic, I would never get out of there alive.  One day when a slower than usual train came through, I threw down my sledgehammer and ran, jumping on the moving train.  The guards shot me in the foot, but I held on for dear life and made it to the forest, where I jumped off and lived for the rest of the war.  I jumped on that train to save my life, of course, but I also did it to prove that a dictator was wrong and that freedom was right.  There are people all over the world still taking those kinds of risks.  They may not be jumping on a train, but they are standing up for freedom in places such as China, Iraq and Iran.  The second risk I took was buying Hatco.  I was the president of Hatco when it was owned by the original owner, Peter Grace, and I received a good salary and a comfortable life.  I had a wife, three children and a mother-in-law who all depended on me.  Buying Hatco was a financial risk, but one I was willing to take to become a better provider.”

Become Self-sufficient As Soon As Possible:

“I saw the Nazis take away all the material goods of my family and thousands of others during the war.  If you get a good education, no one can take that away.  When I graduated from the University amid the ruins of Europe, I had job offers from Australia to Argentina to America.  I could have gone anywhere.  For me the best country in which to achieve success was the United States.  It still is.  I learned a lot from Peter Grace, the president of W.R. Grace and Company, but as soon as I could I went out on my own.  Get an education, then learn from the best people you can find in your field.  As soon as you can, strike out on your own. Knowledge and hard work are an unbeatable combination.  In the chemical business, we depend on catalysts creating chemical reactions to produce new products.  Sometimes these reactions with 10,000 gallons take hours to complete, and when they did I was there—even if it took place in the middle of the night.  Years later I was named Entrepreneur of the Year, but it all began by willing to work hard.  Companies should be as self-sufficient as the people who run them.  As I built up Kaufman Holdings, I structured companies with synergy to supply each other instead of having to buy supplies and products from others.  That way we could keep the profits in-house and could use them to modernize and keep ahead of the competition.  I was very proud to have created hundreds of jobs that enabled employees to have good lives.  Some of the children went to college and then came back to work at Hatco.

Countries need to be self-sufficient too.  I’m not against international trade—I have sold millions of dollars of chemical products overseas—but I’ve argued for years that when we see our best young minds go into financial institutions—instead of making things that people can use—we are on the wrong track!  The events in the last few months of our economy have proven my point.”

The Bottom Line: Family.

“The lowest point of my life was when my parents and sister were taken away.  I never saw them again.  There is nothing more important than family.  To bring children into the world, to provide a good life for them, to give them a good name to live up to—all these things should be the main focus of a good life.”

With a youthful energy, Alex Kaufman enjoys travelling the world, staying at his homes in Aspen, Palm Desert, New York and New Zealand.  Beverly Hills is his second home.  He enjoys good restaurants and still continues to cut a dashing figure, riding around on his Harley, playing tennis, and carving out tracks in the snowy peaks above Aspen.  The more permanent marks he leaves in the world, however, are the lasting impressions of his values for all those who are willing to listen and learn.

AIO—Premium Cellular Health

AIO—Premium Cellular Health is the latest innovative medical discovery to promote wellness on a cellular level, with a nutritional supplement  to optimize stem cell function.  Meet Dr. Robin Smith, Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer of NeoStem, Inc. Smith also serves on the Board of Trustees of NYU Medical Center and is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases where she heads up new development programs.

AIO—Premium Cellular Health was developed by Ceres Living, Inc., in conjunction with a leading nutritional laboratory.  This all-in-one supplement helps to fight oxidative stress, and also helps to optimize stem cell functions.  NeoStem is focused on licensing technology related to Stem Cell therapies.  The first licensed was from the University of Louisville, Dr. Mariusz Ratajczak, M.D., Ph.D. Director of the Stern Cell Biology Program who made the ground- breaking discovery that bone marrow contains a rare population of pluripotent stem cells that are mobilized into the periphery blood during stress and/or at the time of injury. These pluripotent stem cells go a long way to assist in the repair of damaged tissue.

NeoStem just signed an agreement to promote this product of which a priority is to support the Stem for Life Foundation—dedicated to heightening public awareness to using adult stem cells to treat serious medical conditions in regenerative medicine.  This greatly benefits first responders such as firefighters, soldiers, police and chronically ill patients in need of the service, but unable to pay for it.  NeoStem is focused on those at the highest risk for fire and burn injuries, and other accidents.

ST: Why is stem cell treatment and supplements important for our bodies?

RS: People spend so much time focused on things affecting their appearance.   We wash our face, brush our teeth, get hair color, diet, but what do we do on a daily basis to protect our insides.  People wait until it’s too late, or have a health scare to get proactive when it comes to regenerating their health from the inside out.  If there was a single solution to better health, would you take it?  If the answer is ‘YES’…you should supplement your diet with a blend of ingredients designed to better your daily health.

AIO Is Made With Vital Ingredients

• Delivers powerful antioxidants.

• Supports and optimizes stem cell function.

• Supports heart, adrenal and cardio- vascular function.

• Boosts the immune system.

• Supports joint and bone health.

• Nourishes cells for longevity.

In addition to AIO supplements, Ceres Living, Inc., is generating public interest in stem cell collection. NeoStem is the first company to provide adult stem cell collection and long-term storage to the general public. NeoStem’s medically proven process is safe and minimally invasive, collecting your own stem cells for your future use.  The process reduces risks of complications associated with rejection or transmission of disease from donor cells, if you ever need them.  Once collected, the cells are processed, separating the desired cells.  They are placed in storage containers, cooled and placed in a liquid nitrogen tank at a select processing and storage laboratory facility and safely stored for your future use.

ST: …the future of health maintenance?

RS: It would be great if like Prometheus we could repair our damaged organs?  As humans evolved the ability to regenerate tissue was lost.  Unlike a starfish we can’t cut off a hand and have it grow back.  But, as medical technology advances we can repair damaged tissue; like repair a heart muscle damaged from a heart attack.  The key is to live longer—be functional, be able to really live—not just be alive.

Dennis Rodgerson, Ph.D., NeoStem’s Director of Stem Cell Science stated, “Stimulating healthy growth of stem cells is a critical component of every anti- aging program, and there are natural ingredients to support stem cell health. Research shows that specific nutrients and hormones encourage the growth or proliferation of stem cells in one’s body, promoting regeneration and healing.  AIO’s innovative formula is an important supplement to age management.”

NeoStem research suggests that the best time to collect your own adult Stem Cells for your own future use is when you are healthy and your cells are strong and viable!  The NeoStem team is dedicated to instilling in clients the importance of looking beyond “right now” by emphasizing the benefits of being proactive in one’s own future health care.  Taking an active part in the future of your own health gives you the option of medical advances that will be available tomorrow….advances that could one day possibly save your life.

ANTI-AGING ADVANCEMENTS NEW BOTOX WARNINGS

With the recent black box warning now mandatory on the Botox label, people concerned about the future of their health should look for alternative ways to rejuvenate their skin.  Why not use your own healthy stem cells for this purpose?  Have your cells collected today at any of NeoStem’s licensed collection centers located on the West Coast in San Diego, Santa Monica and Malibu, California; and on the East Coast in Manhattan, Long Island, New York, New Jersey; and Coral Gables, Florida. Louisville, Kentucky center will be available to clients in the near future.  The NeoSkin Medical Advisory Board is headed by its Chief Medical Advisor, Ron Rothenberg,M.D.

ST:  At what age should a person start thinking about health and regeneration  of their stem cells?

RR:  The best time to collect your stem cells is when you’re young and healthy. Stem cells, like other cells of the body, undergo cellular changes with the passage of time. DNA point mutations, altered cellular function, and decreases in spindle apparatus length are a few of the changes that stem cells can undergo with age. These changes, as expected, carry the potential of diminishing the effectiveness of an individual’s stem cells.  While there is no data to suggest an optimal or upper limit age to collect and store one’s own stem cells, stem cells collected when you are younger, function better than stem cells collected later in life.

New Technologies at NeoStem

Dr. Mariusz Ratajczak, M.D., Ph.D. Director of the Stem Cell Biology Program at the University of Louisville: “Very small embryonic-like stem cells” or VSELs express a multitude of pluripotent stem cell markers and are enriched in expression of genes found in skeletal muscles, heart, neural cells, liver, intestinal epithelium, skin epithelium and endocrine pancreas. VSELs demonstrate many embryonic stem cell-like characteristics, including the capacity to form in vitro spheres resembling embryoid bodies which express the placental form of alkaline phosphatase and other genes involved in early gastrulation.  Their extensive pluripotency has been confirmed by demonstrating the ability of VSELs to differentiate into all three germ-layer lineages, ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm.  Most recently, VSELs have been shown to assist in cardiac repair after myocardial infarction.”

The most recent technology NeoStem licensed was developed by Vincent C. Giampapa, M.D., F.A.C.S., a Board-certified plastic/reconstructive surgeon and Assistant Clinical  Professor of Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.   Giampapa, one of the first certified anti-aging medical physicians in the world, is Director of the Plastic Surgery Center International and The Giampapa Institute for Anti-Aging Medical Therapy.

”These innovative stem cell skin rejuvenation procedures enhances NeoStem’s leadership in the anti-aging and regenerative medicine arena. This has long been one of our core pursuits. Our earliest stem cell collection center is focused on treatments for physical aging.  In January 2009, Dr. Giampapa presented and demonstrated some of his skin rejuvenation techniques using autologous adult stem cells at the 2009 International Stem Cell Technology and Applications Summit in Qingdao, China. The exciting part; it’s natural, not synthetic.  It helps your skin rejuvenate itself.”

ST: How long can cells be stored ?

RS: NeoStem collects only the adult autologous stem cells. Your cells are for your use ONLY!  Adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can renew themselves and can differentiate to yield the major cell types of a tissue or organ.  The primary role of adult stem cells is to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.  Cells that are properly cryopreserved can be stored for very long periods of time and should be active and healthy when you are ready to use them.  In fact, they probably last longer than the life expectancy of the donor.

Simin Hashemizadeh Hosts Larry King Heart Foundation Gala

July 2, 2009 by Beverly Hills Times

It was truly an enchanting night with Simin Hashemizadeh, as she opened her beautiful hill top mansion to host a charity fundraiser gala to support the Larry King Heart Foundation.   Friends, family, and internationally  renowned physicians, high-profile attorneys, big names in the music and entertainment industry…they all gathered to enjoy a fabulous evening for an incredible cause.  The setting couldn’t have been more perfect—outdoors under a moonlit sky, over- looking city lights, and dining on an array of delicious Persian food.

In attendance of course, the CNN television broadcasting icon himself Larry King, and his beautiful wife Shawn King.  Larry had the one-hundred guests in stitches as he took the microphone and brought down the house with hilarious story after story.  Shawn joined Larry at the mic and they kept the crowd laughing throughout the event.  Everyone loved them.  Not to be forgotten was the heart of the evening…The Larry King Heart Foundation and the incredible work it does helping those in need of heart surgery, but without funds to pay for it.  Simin, a gorgeous Iranian socialite has, since she moved to the United States become involved in supporting many national, state and local charities.  Her generous support reaches out to all nationalities and all religions.  Whether it is fighting against animal cruelty, helping the homeless and sick, or helping fund research for life-threatening diseases, Simin puts her heart and soul into helping others.

“I love and respect Larry King so much for the work he does fighting heart disease, Simin said.   “Many times in our comfortable lives we don’t even see the people suffering who need help.  It’s up to each of us to open our eyes to the pain of others.  This party was not about having fun… this party was about gathering people together to inspire them to generously support charities that change lives.”

Within days of Simin’s lovely event, a dark cloud was cast as terrible news came from her country of Iran.  When I met with her, the sadness in her eyes was overwhelming.  On the verge of tears she had this to say:

“This is a very sad time for me, the people of my country want nothing more than freedom and to live in peace.   It is in my nature to try to fix problems.  Now I have a pain in my heart because I see so many people suffering in my country and there is nothing I can do.  These past days I’ve asked everyone what we can do to stop the killing of all these people.  We see the world watching blood being spilled, but who with power will step up and do something?  Someone needs to end the torture and killing of these innocent men, women and young people.  Even on television we are not  seeing the true brutality of what is happening.  Acid is being thrown on the crowds, boiling water tossed from helicopters, soldiers are going into private homes at night and killing people or dragging them off to prison—it is a horrifying mass torture of people who have done nothing wrong, but vote in an election for their freedom.  What the world does not see is that I come from a people who are loving, generous and well educated.  They want to live in peace and pray every minute to have their country again what it once was.“

The Galvanic Spa System II

THE ULTIMATE IN SKIN CARE AT HOME!

The Galvanic Spa System is the top pick for the hottest skin care products of 2009. Experience a spa treatment in the privacy of your own home using a system that rejuvenates your complexion, revitalizes your scalp and refines your body.  It’s no secret that people are concerned about their appearance and are consuming anti-aging products at an extraordinary rate.  Men and women all ages—starting in their twenties routinely spend their money visiting day spas, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and estheticians seeking all kinds of solutions to look and feel younger.

In a scientific breakthrough, Nu Skin, a 25 year old Provo, Utah company has discovered a previously unknown internal source of aging; Nu Skin has an exclusive, technology—ageLOC.  This anti-aging technology contains a blend of ingredients specifically designed to target internal sources of aging and control the skin’s genetic destiny.

The story begins a decade ago with a phone call between two scientists—  Dr. James and Dorothy Morre from Purdue University and Dr. Joseph Chang of Nu Skin.  James and Dorothy were involved in the ongoing search for a cure for cancer.  Specifically their studies revolved around the role of Green Tea and anti-cancer activity. They were searching for an extremely high-quality, standardized green tea product, and Nu Skin met their criteria.  This was the beginning of their friendship and their professional collaboration.

Five years ago, the Morres commented to Dr. Chang, on discovering an enzyme not present in very young people, but oddly, found in ever increasing quantities in the cells as a person aged!  Further research discovered that this mysterious enzyme, A-R-NOX is a source of aging!  With this landmark breakthrough of an internal aging source, Dr Chang wondered if they could slow the process of aging.  Dr. Chang and his team went to work and developed a technology called ageLOC.  It appeared to slow the internal source ‘free-radical’ causing signs of aging, but Nu Skin scientists needed to verify this.

Stanford University was invited to do third party clinical trials.  At the conclusion of these trials, these were the results: The activity level of the A-R-NOX enzyme in a person’s skin was monitored for a period of 48 minutes.  They then applied ingredients to slow this activity.  The A-R-NOX activity levels in this clinical trial show that activity had slowed dramatically—essentially stopping the aging process in its tracks.  These ageLOC facial gels are designed to be used with the Nu Skin product—The Nu Skin Galvanic Spa.

The Nu Skin Galvanic Spa System II allows you to achieve results, in a small amount of time in the privacy of your home.  The Galvanic Spa together with the ageLOC facial gels have the power to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and give skin a rejuvenated look and feel.

The spa’s benefits don’t end with the face. The Galvanic Spa comes with additional attachments to be used on the body to minimize the appearance of cellulite and another to revitalize the scalp and hair.

People see visible improvement!

Erin Brockovich: Two Girls Down & Spain Withdraws Gardasil

I’d like to take a moment to remember Jenny Tetlock, whose story has been publicized.  Jenny Tetlock received the Gardasil shot at 15 years of age, was paralyzed and God rest her soul, recently passed away.  Bless you Jenny.  Your story is heartbreaking, and we all feel your loss.  Jenny, we want to find answers.  Who knows where to look?  Not to the CDC. Maybe to Spain.  Why Spain?  A month ago, Spain recalled 76,000 doses of the HPV vaccine when two adolescent girls got seriously sick after getting their shot.  Here in the United States, we’ve had more than two girls who got sick and to my knowledge NO doses of the vaccine were ever recalled.  The issue here is that two girls got sick after receiving doses of the HPV vaccine and Spain responded immediately.  Has our own FDA done anything?  Not to my knowledge.

If we came across 50, 40, 30 or even a single dead person in the woods, our agencies would send out alerts; they would investigate.  They would search and search for the answers until they were found.  The VAER Database Gardasil line reports list more than a dozen deaths among the serious adverse events of otherwise healthy girls.   Isn’t this enough of an alert that someone among us should step up and search and search for the answers until they were found?

There is a common denominator that we haven’t yet exposed.  That is my point.  We must uncover that lethal factor; we must identify it so that not one more girl dies needlessly.

But here it is in black and white:

Spain withdraws cervical cancer shot after illnesses.

We’ll let it pass that Gardasil is an HPV vaccine, and not a cancer shot. (That’s a marketing angle to avoid talking about the percentages.  Let’s also let it pass that while it’s marketed as a cancer preventative, it only goes after 4/30 of the HPV strains that cause 70% cervical cancers.  That works out to be like 9%.  Would you use a prophylactic that only guards against 9% of pregnancies?  Should we let people go around thinking they are protected when they are 91% still  vulnerable?  Let’s let all of that pass, for now, and think about the human cost of rushing to market.

The two girls in Spain who had the vaccine both went into convulsions within hours of taking the vaccine.

Therefore, Spain decided to recall 76,000 doses of Gardasil after two girls had seizures.  But the FDA has not—after many more than two girls —have died!  Does Spain love its daughters more than the U.S.?  Why hasn’t the FDA acted on the many incidents that have happened here? Are the FDA and CDC really on top of things?  Is the U.S. even looking at the VAERS LIST to see how many girls in the U.S. have had adverse reactions after taking Gardasil—let alone those who have died?  In Spain, two girls had seizures—seizures—and they didn’t die, but yet 76,000 doses of Gardasil were recalled.

VAERS reports are available online. Look them up yourself.  Results show significantly more than just two incidents related to Gardasil and all of the girls had one thing in common—the Gardasil shot.  While Spain has recalled 76,000 doses of Gardasil, the U.S. is trying to mandate its use.  What is wrong with this picture?

At the least, any use of Gardasil should be a matter of choice.  As Americans, our young girls and their parents should have a choice when it comes to health and make that choice with knowledge including contraindication and negative interactions.  Shouldn’t the FDA and CDC be LOOKING for those contraindication and negative interactions to safe guard the health of our young girls?

Many unanswered questions remain of why so many American girls have had adverse reactions—some dying after taking Gardasil. They and their families deserve an answer. But for the seven women that I personally know whose daughters died after taking Gardasil, and for Jenny—no matter how soon the answer is found—it is too late!

RON PAUL: AUDIT THE FED…THEN END IT!

July 2, 2009 by Beverly Hills Times

I have been very pleased with the progress of my legislation, HR 1207, which calls for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve and removes many significant barriers towards transparency of our monetary system. This bill now has nearly 170 cosponsors, with support from both Republicans and Democrats. Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced a companion bill in the Senate S 604, which will hopefully begin to gain momentum as well. I am very encouraged to see so many of my colleagues in Congress stand with me for greater transparency in government.

Some, however, have begun to push back against this bill, and I am very happy to address their concerns.

Their main argument seems to be that Congressional oversight over the Fed is government interference in the free market.  This argument shows a misunderstanding of what a free market really is.  Fundamentally, you cannot defend the Federal Reserve and the free market at the same time.  The Fed negates the very foundation of a free market by artificially manipulating the price and supply of money—the lifeblood of the economy.  In a free market, interest rates, like the price of any other consumer goods are decentralized and set by the market. The only legitimate, Constitutional role of the government in monetary policy is to protect the integrity of the monetary unit and defend against counterfeiters.

Instead, Congress has abdicated this responsibility to a cabal of elite, quasi-governmental banks who instead of stabilizing the economy, have destabilized it.  It took less than two decades for the Federal Reserve to bring on the Great Depression of the 1930’s.  It has also inflated away the value of our currency by over 96 percent since its inception.  It has invisibly stolen from the poor and given to the rich through this controlled inflation, and now openly stolen through recent bank bailouts.  It has predictably exacerbated the very problems it was meant to solve.

Detractors argue that the Fed must remain immune from the political process, and that more congressional oversight will distort their important decisions.  On the contrary, the Federal Reserve is already heavily entrenched in the political process, as the Fed chairman is a political appointee. High level officials routinely make rounds between positions at the Fed, member banks, Treasury and back again taking care of friends and each other along the way.

As for the foolish- ness of placing complex monetary policy decisions in politicians hands…

I can’t agree more. No politician or central banker, no matter how brilliant —is smart enough to know more than the market itself. The failure of central economic planning has been witnessed over and over.  It’s beyond me why we agreed to try it again.

To understand how unwise it is to have the Federal Reserve, one must first understand the magnitude of the privileges they have.  They have been given the power to create money, by the trillions, and to give it to their friends, under any terms they wish, with little or no meaningful oversight or any accountability. Thus the loudest arguments against greater transparency are likely to come from those friends, and understandably so.

However, it is the responsibility of every member of Congress to represent the interests of those  people who sent them to Washington in the first place and find out what has been happening with our money. As the branch of government with the power of the purse, we really have no other reasonable choice when the economy is in the shape it’s in.
