ME & THE MAYOR

“My Day With The Mayor” photo shoot and interview was a blast.  It’s amazing, but until you meet someone you have no idea who they really are, what their personality is like and how they will respond to you.

I am happy to report that our Beverly Hills Mayor Jimmy Delshad is what I hoped he would be.  Friendly, funny, gracious to everyone and what a great guy accommodating my photo requests, such as…he was all dressed, gorgeous suit and all, ready to go to a City Council meeting and I came up with…’how about a rolled up sleeve kind of look?’ I think most men dressed for a City Council meeting would have scoffed at the thought of ‘de-coating’ and ‘de-cuff-linking‘ but not our mayor. He rolled with the crew and was a champ.

His interview was candid and revealing. Way too often when we speak with people we walk away never really knowing who they are…only who they want us to think they are. People pretend to be some- one and something that they aren’t.  Why? Probably because they think people won’t like them if they know the truth. I disagree. I believe people like us better if they know the truth of our past; the struggles we’ve been though, the obstacles we’ve overcome.

Mr. Delshad offered us a glimpse into his life: What brought him to the place he is right now. What he had to say was packed with messages of responsibility, survival, determination, motivation and striving to be the best that he can be. Truth is good. Truth inspires and truth helps others who may be struggling to find the courage to overcome difficulty. Life may not always be as we would like, in fact, it almost never is. But if we wait for perfection to arrive we could be waiting forever.

What I took away from Mr. Delshad’s interview was; take what you have NOW and run with it. Turn your worst moments into your biggest accomplishments not by hiding the truth of who you are and what you have been through, but embracing those tough times as learning experiences and stepping stones to your future successes.
