City of Hope Commemorates “Power of Hope Gala Fundraiser”

Donors, supporters and industry executives gathered at City of Hope’s Tour of Hope in Duarte to commemorate “Power of Hope,” an eight-year, $1 billion campaign to raise dollars to advance research and treatment in cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, plus attract accomplished faculty, expand opportunities for research, advance education in the biological sciences, support scientific collaborations and strengthen the institution’s compassionate patient care. Speakers were Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president/CEO; Alexandra Levine, M.D., M.A.C.P., CMO; David Josephson, M.D., assistant Professor of Surgery, Urology and Urologic Oncology; Matthew Loscalzo, L.C.S.W., Exec Director of Supportive Care Medicine and Administrative Director; Sheri & Les Biller Patient & Family Resource Center; and Lily Lai, M.D., clinical associate professor and physician of General Oncologic Surgery. More than $550 million of the $1 billion has been raised in gifts and pledges since the quiet phase of the campaign began in 2005. The campaign will culminate in 2013 to recognize and celebrate The City of Hope’s 100th anniversary.
